Alokpovi, Ponce Lead Cavs Past Beacons
PORTLAND, Ore.—With thee goals by Alex Ponce and four assists by Kossivi Alokpovi, the Concordia University men’s soccer team reached its 10th win of the season with a 8-0 victory over Northwest Christian at The Yard on Oct. 11.
With the win, the Cavaliers improved to 10-3-0 on the year and 8-1-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Northwest Christian dropped to 1-11-0 with a 1-8-0 CCC mark.
Tyler Camp (Vancouver, Wash.) struck for his sixth goal of the season in the 8th minute of play to put the Cavaliers on the board early. Making it a 3-0 lead, Ponce (Hood River, Ore.) hit consecutive scores in the first period, the first off of a free kick in the 30th minute and the latter a 40th-minute shot.
Camp completed the bookends of the period with his second goal of the day, reaching the net in the 41st minute via a seven-yard rumbler to the left of the Beacon goalkeeper.
Forty-six seconds into the second period, Alokpovi (Glendale, Ariz.) scored his fourth goal of the season after adding two assists to the cause in the first period. The sophomore would continue to add to his point total with two additional dishes in the second period. Alokpovi provided the successful setup to Ponce’s third goal of the day in the 55th minute and crossed the ball to Bent Jenson (Beaverton, Ore.) in the 72nd minute for Concordia’s seventh score.
