Davenport Records Match-High in Kills vs. NCC
EUGENE, Ore. – Junior Rashelle Davenport (Kalama, Wash.) recorded a career and match-high 22 kills, as Corban's women's volleyball team remained undefeated on the road thanks to a 3-2 (30-26, 23-30, 30-23, 22-30, 15-7) win over the Beacons of Northwest Christian on Friday inside the Morse Event Center.
In the short history between these two conference rivals, Corban has won all three matches by a combined game score of 9-4 thanks to a first-ever season sweep of the Beacons.
Having played only one other five-game match this season, Corban continued its winning ways picking up its second straight victory to remain unbeaten this week and move into fifth place all alone in the conference standings.
Along with Davenport, fellow junior Chelsea Reeher (Powell Butte, Ore.) and freshman Kristen Eiler (Salem, Ore.) added 20 and 12 kills respectively as senior Ashley Lange (Salem, Ore.) chipped in with nine kills.
Sophomore setter Amy Thompson (Oregon City, Ore.) handed out a match-high 59 assists, while junior Margo Wyatt (Dufur, Ore.) lead a quartet of Warriors to record 10-or-more digs with a team-high 23. Defensively, the Warriors recorded 7.0 blocks led by Reeher and freshman Teri Braun (Dallas, Ore.) who each had three total blocks. Davenport and Thompson registered their second straight double-double each, as Davenport added 15 digs and Thompson registered 10 digs.
Northwest Christian was led by Brooke Stribling's team-high 17 kills, while Ashley Blanchfill and Melissa Bishop added 16 and 9 kills respectively. Alex Jee handed out a team-high 30 assists for the Beacons, while Stribling anchored Northwest Christian's back row with a match and team-high 24 digs. On the defensive side of the net, NCC combined to record a match-high 10.0 blocks with Stribling and Cotie Howard leading the charge with six assist blocks each.
With its second straight win, Corban evens its overall record at 9-9 and moves to 7-5 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Northwest Christian drops to 9-10 overall, 4-7 in its first official conference campaign. The Warriors are back in action on Friday, October 19th, when take on the Eagles of Northwest University beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
