Aho, Concordia Second at Cavalier Fall Classic
RIDGEFIELD, Wash.—Despite having all five roster members finish in the top 10, a three-stroke deficit to the University of Victoria was too much to overcome as Concordia University finished in second place at the Cavalier Fall Classic held at Tri-Mountain Golf Course.
Extending its first-day lead by five strokes with a team score of 327 in the third round, Victoria held off the host Cavaliers 963 to 971. Concordia scored 322-317-332—971 for the two-day event while Corban College finished in third place with a 431-432-432—1,295. The Cascade Collegiate Conference’s Northwest Christian College and The College of Idaho were also represented on the course.
Victoria’s Anne Balser fired the low score for the second straight round with a 4-over 76 to capture the individual title. Bookended by 76s in the first and third round, Balser shot a tournament-low 73 in the middle round to pull away from the field.
With a tournament-leading seven birdies, Concordia’s Lindsay Aho finished with a 74-79-77—230 for runner-up honors. The Cavalier’s Kim Tilton placed third with an 81-79-83—243 and teammate Amy Esmeier finished in a tie for fifth with an 82-79-85—246.
Corban teammates Elizabeth Sherwin and Emily Stupfel led the Warriors with 320s on their scorecard to tie for 12th place overall. Alli Straubharr finished in 11th place with a 98-97-104—299 to lead The College of Idaho squad and Jordie Howell shot a 112-110-111—333 for 18th place for a team-low for Northwest Christian College.
Also billed as the second tournament event for the Cascade Collegiate Conference, the league teams will return for two spring events with the season opener hosted by Corban College scheduled for March 24-25. Northwest Christian will host the fourth and final event on April 7-8.
