Concordia Captures Title at Cavalier Classic
RIDGEFIELD, Wash.— Fighting rain for most of the day, Tyler Austin rattled off his second straight 5-under 67 for a 16-stroke individual win while leading Concordia University to the team title at the Cavalier Fall Classic held at Tri-Mountain Golf Course.
Opening with a 64, Austin fired back-to-back 67s for a three-round score of 198 to capture medalist honors. Corban College’s Wade Douglas jumped to second place overall after recording a 72 in the final round to nip teammate Ben Sisler and Concordia’s Marc Arima 214 to 215.
Douglas sandwiched a middle-round of 70 with 72s for a 214, Arima used a 68 in the second round to boost the junior to a 215 and Sisler’s consistent play with rounds of 73, 70 and 72 moved the Warrior from sixth to second on the second day.
The host Cavaliers outpaced Corban 847-888 for the team crown. With a pair of 278s on the opening day, Concordia dropped to 291 in the third and final round for an 847-stroke tally. Corban finished 298-283-307—888 for runner-up honors, Northwest Christian placed third with a 301-310-330—951 and The College of Idaho rounded out the team scoring with a 334-346-357—1,037.
Brent McKee led Northwest Christian with a sixth-place finish at 70-73-75—218 and Ben Coate was the low scorer for The College of Idaho with a 78-82-75—235.
Craig Dehning and Dan Scobie cracked the top 10 for the Cavaliers with Dehning taking fifth place with a 69-72-75—216 while Scobie carded a 77-71-75—223 for ninth. The Warriors’ Nicholas Schroeader dropped from a share of second place to eighth with an 82 in the third round for a 221-stroke sum.
Also billed as the second tournament event for the Cascade Collegiate Conference, the league teams will return for two spring events with the season opener hosted by Corban College scheduled for March 24-25. Northwest Christian will host the fourth and final event on April 7-8.
