OIT Wins 3-1 at Southern Oregon
ASHLAND, Ore. -- The Oregon Tech women’s soccer team clinched its first ever home playoff game with a 1 -0 win over Southern Oregon in Ashland today. With the win, Tech finishes in third place at 6-4 in the Cascade Conference and sets a new team record for points in a season with a total of 18 and also sets a team record for most wins in a season at 10-7-1. The loss knocked Southern Oregon out of the playoffs with a Cascade Conference record of 3-5-2 and an overall record of 7-8-3.
Oregon Tech’s goal came at the 83:21 mark on a corner kick by Sarah Brown (So./ Ruch) that was initially deflected by a Southern Oregon defender, then sent back to the upper right of the Raiders’ goal by Tech’s Sharon Hernandez (Fr./ Jacksonville). The goal for Hernandez was her fourth of the season.
Oregon Tech goalie and last week’s Cascade Conference Defensive player of the week Jaclyn Unruh (Jr./Medford) made several outstanding saves in the shutout for the Hustlin Owls and was credited with 8 saves on the day. The 1-0 victory was the third 1-0 win in a row for Oregon Tech.
Oregon Tech will now play host to Warner Pacific in the first round of the Cascade Conference playoffs on Saturday at 1:00pm at Steen Sports Park. Warner Pacific lost to Corban 2-0 on Wednesday night and comes into Saturday’s match up with a 4-5-1 league record and an overall record of 8-8-1.
