Eastern Oregon Narrowly Beats C of I for CCC Title
EAGLE, Idaho - Eastern Oregon took home their seventh Cascade Conference women's cross country championship, narrowly defeating The College of Idaho by three points in today's event, Presented by Bandanna Running, at Eagle Island State Park in Eagle, Idaho.
The Mountaineers were paced by a second-place finish from Marcella Bosch and had four runners in the Top-10. It is Eastern's first title since 2005.
The C of I, who had never finished higher than fourth, got an inspired race from true freshman Stephanie Helm, who outdistanced the field on the muddy course in 18:47. The Lady Yotes also received a great race from sophomore Stephanie Sparks, who placed sixth - one of four Yotes to make the All-CCC team.
Beth Knudtson of Northwest placed third overall, while a pair of Corban runners - Danielle Jordan and Carli Moller rounded out the Top-5, helping the Warriors, the defending CCC champs, to a third-place finish.
Helm was named CCC Women's Athlete of the Year, while Eastern's Ben Welch was named Coach of the Year.
