Concordia Tops College of Idaho, 1-0
CALDWELL, Idaho - Joe Givens scored the lone goal this afternoon in the 88th minute, lifting No. 24 ranked Concordia to a 1-0 victory over The College of Idaho at Symms Field.
Despite a 26-9 edge in total shots and a 12-1 edge in shots on goal, the Cavaliers (15-3, 13-1 CCC) could not break the wall set by C of I keeper Jay Gentle until the waning moments. Skyler Kimball played a long ball to the right side of the box, with Givens collecting the ball, making a short move, and blasting the ball into the top shelf.
The Cavs had chances in the first half, as a Steve Pirotte shot was cleared off the line by Stephen Reinschmidt, and Lucas Egenwall hit the crossbar with a blast, and also had a goal disallowed in the second half due to an offsides call.
The Yotes (11-6-1, 8-5-1) nearly took the lead in the 63rd minute, as Jesus Lopez cracked a header in the box, but CU keeper Garrett Staples got a hand on the ball, deflecting it over the crossbar.
Concordia moves on to host next weekend's NAIA Region I Tournament, to be played at Camas High School. CU is joined by Westminster, Simon Fraser, and Warner Pacific.
