College of Idaho Hangs on for Win over NCC
CALDWELL, Idaho - The Albertson College of Idaho women's soccer team scored a pair of first half goals and withstood a late flurry from Northwest Christian to post a key 2-1 Cascade Conference victory this afternoon at Symms Field.
Using a 16-1 edge in shots in the opening period, the Lady Yotes (7-4-2, 4-1-2 CCC) got on the board in the 29th minute as Leah Roach knocked home a one-time shot into the right corner of the net off a Martine Troy corner kick. ACI would get the eventual game-winning goal ten minutes later, as Courtney Mitchell converted a nice combination. Laura Fink played a long ball up the left side to Ryann Lagomarsino, who crossed the ball to the far post and Mitchell chested the ball into the net.
The Beacons (0-11-1, 0-7-0) would not go away - as keeper Bethany McAllister stuffed a 1-on-1 chance with Roach and a rebound from Amanda Barrieau in the 56th minute, then got on the board in the 57th minute as Bethany Howard found the net after a Dominique Wilson shot clanged off the crossbar. NCC would get a pair of corner kicks in the final 15 minutes, and a Samantha Stewart free kick that was stopped by Yotes keeper Sadie Hughes, but could not get the equalizer.
With the win, the Lady Yotes moved back into second-place in the CCC standings. ACI will play their final non-conference match of the year tomorrow, meeting two-time NAIA National Champion, Simon Fraser, at 1 p.m. in La Grande, Ore.
