No. 6 Concordia Tops Southern Oregon
ASHLAND, Ore. – The Southern Oregon Raiders women’s soccer team played host to No. 6 ranked Concordia University on Friday, dropping a 3-0 decision in their sixth game of Cascade Conference play. The Raiders (7-6-1, 3-3) put the pressure on Concordia (11-1, 6-0) in the first half, not allowing a goal. Concordia responded with three second-half goals to continue their undefeated CCC season.
Although Concordia out-shot Southern 9-2 in the first half, the Raiders were able to hold off any goals in the first 45-minutes. Starting goalkeeper, Melanie Hopkins (Salt Lake City, Utah) was able to fend off five attempts at goals in the first half while the CU’s keeper, Leah Flores tallied one save.
Getting the Cavaliers off to a quick start in the second half, Jessica Ramback was able to put CU up 1-0 after Justine Pronovost fed her a ball just in front of the goal. Ramback was able to take a shot from 15-feet out, sending the ball past Hopkins’ reach at 48:03 in the game. Shortly after, Ramback struck again, sending an unassisted shot deep into the net at 56:27 to put the Cavs up 2-0. The Cavaliers sealed their win with a third goal from Shea Miller at 67:23 after Danielle MacBride fed her a cross from the right.
Leading the Raider offense, Morgan Spencer (Portland, Ore.) totaled two shots, one on goal, while Sara Switzer (Redondo Beach, Calif.) had one shot on goal. Kelly Clark (Laguna Niguel) added a shot to the Raider offense as well. Ramback led the CU offense with five shots, two on goal which both ended as goals. Stephanie Solarek had four shots (one on goal), Justine Pronovost tallied three shots (two on goal), and Caitlin Verhofstadt and Shea Miller each had two shots (one on goal). The Cavs totaled 21 shots on the day, including 12 on goal while holding the Raiders to a four-shot, two on goal effort.
Concordia will continue on to Oregon Tech on Saturday, while the Raiders will play host to Cascade College in a 3 p.m. match at University Field.
