Corban Falls to College of Idaho
SALEM, Ore. – Junior Rashelle Davenport (Kalama, Wash.) recorded a team-high 10 kills, but Corban's women's volleyball team could not overcome the high-powered offense of the NAIA's No. 10-ranked Lady 'Yotes of Albertson, 3-0 (10-30, 24-30, 13-30), on Saturday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
On a night when Corban College's Department of Athletics honored the 10-year anniversary of then-Western Baptist's 1997 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national championship, the Warriors seemed to be out muscled by the nationally-ranked squad from Caldwell, Idaho.
Davenport was one of four players to record 10-or-more kills in the match, as the other three were from Albertson. Along with Davenport, junior Chelsea Reeher (Powell Butte, Ore.) and freshman Kristen Eiler (Salem, Ore.) added 6 and 5 kills respectively for the Warriors.
Sophomore setter Amy Thompson (Oregon City, Ore.) handed out a team-high 24 assists, while she and Davenport registered 12 and 13 digs respectively to lead Corban. Defensively, the Warriors recorded 3.0 blocks led by freshman Teri Braun (Dallas, Ore.), who had a pair of solo blocks.
Albertson was led by Katie Hogue's match and team-high 12 kills, while Katheryn Elly and Katie Zillner added 11 and 10 respectively. Naomi Reimer handed out a match and team-high 28 assists for the Lady 'Yotes, while libero Catherine Everist anchored Albertson's back row with a match and team-high 17 digs. On the defensive side of the net, Albertson recorded a combined 8.0 blocks with Anne Parker leading the charge with four assist blocks.
With the loss, Corban drops at 7-9 overall, 5-5 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Albertson remains unbeaten in conference play at 10-0 and improves to 12-6 overall. The Warriors are back in action on Tuesday, October 9th, when they travel north to Portland to take on the Cavaliers of Concordia beginning at 7:00 p.m.
