SOU, Cascade Play to 0-0 Tie
ASHLAND, Ore. – The Southern Oregon women’s soccer team recorded their second tie of the season on Saturday, finishing in a 0-0 double overtime decision with Cascade College.
Finishing with the same result as their 2006 meeting, the Raiders (7-6-2, 3-3-1) were able to hold the Thunderbirds (7-4-3, 3-2-2) from earning a win, advancing the team series record to 8-0-4.
The Raiders came out with energy in the first half, firing seven shots while holding the Thunderbirds to only two shots. In the second half Cascade took control totaling five shots while the Raiders tallied only two. Both teams were unable to record a shot in the first overtime, while SOU took the advantage in overtime number two with a 3-2 shot count.
The Raiders totaled 12 shots on the day while Cascade was able to notch nine, however the Thunderbirds led 6-5 in shots on goal for the 120-minute game. Three freshmen, Mo Costello (Seattle, Wash.), Sara Switzer (Redondo Beach, Calif.), and Kelly Clark (Laguna Niguel, Calif.), led the Raider offense with two shots each, while Switzer and Clark each tallied one shot on goal as well. Six other Raiders were able to notch shots, while five of those were close shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper, Melanie Hopkins (Salt Lake City, Utah) was able to tally five saves in her 120-mintues at goal.
For the Thunderbirds, Lori Robertson and Desirae Pino led the team in shots, each totaling two, while both of Pino’s shots were on goal. Five others were able to register shots to total the team’s nine shots on the day. Goalie Valerie Perez recorded four saves at goal.
The Raiders will continue their Cascade Conference play on Friday, October 12 and Saturday, October 13 when they travel to Portland and Salem to take on Warner Pacific and Corban, respectively.
