EOU, College of Idaho Post Wins in Aramark Quinn Classic
LA GRANDE, Ore. - Back and forth was the theme of game one, and College of Idaho came out on top, 66-57. The Yotes were powered by four double-digit scorers, led by Craig McGee's game high 16 points.
Kurt Nielson, Josh Owen, and Bryan Champ finished with 15,14, and 12 respectively for C of I. McGee also led the Yotes with 4 assists. Nielson had a team high 4 rebounds. The College of Idaho shot 44 percent from the field and 29 percent from behind the arc.
The game featured 15 lead changes and nine ties through the 40 minutes.
Montana Western outscored the College of Idaho 27-9 off the bench in the game and trailed 28-33 at the half. The Bulldogs had three scorers in double digits led by Aaron Sims' double double. Sims had 14 points to go along with his 12 rebounds. Doydas Retkas had 10 points and Chad Myers had 12 points. Gus McDonald had a game-high 6 assists.
College of Idaho picked up their first win of the season, improving to 1-2. The Bulldogs of Montana Western fell to 1-4, with their third straight loss.
Game two was a dominant performance by the home team, Eastern Oregon University. The Mountaineers won, 89-57, over the Montana Tech Ore Diggers.
EOU started right where they left off last season with five double digit scorers. The game was highlighted by Neil Fryer's shooting. Fryer had a game-high 26 points. He made his first five shots and finished 10 for 11, making six of seven from three point range.
Mark Carollo and Kyle Janke each had 11 points, and Josh Landsverk and Jeremy Templeton each had ten points. Templeton also had seven assists. The Mounties made half of their baskets in the game and shot 40 percent from the perimeter.
Dusan Veselinovic had 19 points and Dirk Anderson had 15 points for Montana Tech.
The Ore Diggers fell to 1-4 and the Mountaineers improved to 4-0.
