Linfield Defeats Corban, 65-50
TACOMA, Wash. – Sophomore Emily Goette (Aumsville, Ore.) recorded a game-high 12 points and 12 rebounds, as Corban's women's basketball team fell to NCAA Division III member Linfield, 65-50, in the opening game of the Allstate Cantillana Tip-Off Classic Friday.
Having been off for almost two weeks, Corban stepped back on the court and look a little rusty as the Warriors shot a mere 14-for-50 (28.0%) from the field and suffered through foul trouble for three of the five starters.
Trailing by three points (25-22) at the half, Corban fell victim to a hot shooting Wildcat offense that turned in a 12-for-22 (54.5%) performance over the final twenty minutes and out-scored the Warriors by 12 points (40-28).
Along with Goette, senior Jessica Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) and junior Kailey Bostwick (Medford, Ore.) added 10 and 6 points respectively. Meanwhile, Bostwick and freshman Jennesa Miller (Freeman, Wash.) aided Goette's performance on the boards with four rebounds each.
For Linfield, Casey Stephan and Brihtani Lassiter poured in a game-high tying 12 points each while Katie Stadeli added 10 points and a team-high five rebounds.
As a team, Corban connected on its first three-pointers of the season going 3-for-6 (50.0%) from beyond the arc and 19-for-26 (73.1%) from the free throw line. On the other hand, Linfield was 20-for-42 (47.6%) from the field, including 4-for-10 (40.0%) from beyond the arc and 21-for-30 (70.0%) from the free throw line.
With the loss, Corban falls to 0-2 on the season while Linfield opens its campaign with a 1-0 record. The Warriors are next in action on Saturday, November 17th, when they go head-to-head with tournament host Puget Sound in the next-to-last game of the Allstate Cantillana Tip-off Classic beginning at 6:00 p.m. in Tacoma, Washington.
