Nebraska Wins Concordia Battle; Cavs to face Texas Lutheran on Saturday
PORTLAND, Ore.— After watching a stellar defensive performance by Pacific Lutheran in the opening match of the Lutheran Invitational Tournament, Concordia-Nebraska took the opposite approach and turned into an offensive powerhouse to defeat the host Cavaliers 90-56.
The Concordia Bulldogs of Seward, Neb., will face Pacific Lutheran in the LIT championship match at 6 p.m. on Saturday while Concordia-Portland will face more Bulldogs when they play Texas Wesleyan in the 2 p.m. match inside the Cavalier Gymnasium.
Danae Koopman led the Nebraska squad with 20 points from 7-of-11 shooting including 3-of-6 from behind the three-point arc. Overall, the Bulldogs connected on nine threes in 20 attempts with Melissa Tinkham accurate on 4-of-8 launches en route to 14 points.
Danielle Clauson led the Cavaliers with 11 points while filling her stat line with two rebounds, steals, assists and blocks. CU-Nebraska’s Liz Bauer led the court with seven rebounds while Sarah Eischen, coming off the bench, secured five boards to lead the Cavs.
In the opening game of the tourney, Pacific Lutheran held Texas Lutheran to 13 percent shooting from the field and eight points in each half for the 64-16 win. The defensive effort represented a school record for points allowed in a game for the Lutes.
Kyle Haag recorded a game-high 17 points to single handedly outscore the Bulldogs from Seguin, Texas while teammate Emily Voorhies added 15 points from a 7-of-12 shooting performance. The Lutes outrebounded the Bulldogs 59-21.
