Balanced Attack Paces Concordia to Victory
PORTLAND, Ore.—With all 11 players on the roster contributing at least four points, the Concordia University women’s basketball team handled Texas Lutheran 70-45 in the Lutheran Invitational Tournament consolation match played at Conordia-Portland. Concordia-Nebraska earned the tournament title by defeating Pacific Lutheran 81-62.
Ann Snodderly led the host Cavaliers with 12 points and six rebounds in the early game to bounce back after a defeat against CU-Nebraska on Friday. The Cavs held the Bulldogs to 12 points and 25 percent shooting in the first period to gain a 16-point advantage entering intermission before rolling to the 19-point win.
TLU nearly tripled their offensive output in the second half by putting up 33 points. Madilyn Caran led the Bulldogs with 13 points and competed the double-double by hauling in 10 rebounds.
In the championship match, tournament MVP Melissa Tinkham tallied 19 points and five rebounds to lead Concordia-Nebraska to the LIT championship. In a repeat performance from yesterday’s opener, the Bulldogs scored 44 points in the opening period, this time establishing a 16-point lead before the half. Fellow all-tournament player Whitney Stichka scored 16 points for Concordia-Nebraska, helping the team to a 46 percent shooting night.
With Emily Voorhies grabbing seven boards, Pacific Lutheran generated a slight edge in rebounding, 37-34 while both teams were forced into 18 turnovers.
