Mountaineers Show Depth in Road Win
DILLON, Mont. -- The Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team got a chance to see just how deep they are against Montana Western. EOU toppled the Bulldogs 93-79.
Eastern was whistled for 27 fouls in the game, including 16 in the first half that had much of the starting front line sidelined with foul trouble. Fortunately everyone that was called on responded, as The Mounties managed to carry a 14 point lead into the intermission. The second half saw EOU build a lead as large as 20 points.
Jeremy Templeton led the charge with 19 points, 6 assists and 6 steals. Mark Carollo and Neil Fryer scored 17 and 12 respectively.
Dan Blanchard and Kyle Janke came off the bench and score in double figures. Blanchard finished with 13 points, including 6 in a short span just after Western had cut the Mounties lead to single digits. Janke had 10 points while going 6-7 from the free throw line.
4th year head coach Ryan Looney was impressed with his team's efforts. “This is the best our team has played in Dillon in four tries,” he said.
The No. 18 Mountaineers improve to 2-0 and look to make it three straight against Montana Tech Saturday night in Butte, Mont.
