Mark Carollo Earns CCC Player of Week Honors
LA GRANDE, Ore. - A total of 39 points, 10 rebounds while shooting 55% from the field 40% from 3 and 81% from the free throw line. Those are the numbers for Mark Carollo's weekend in Caldwell.
The senior wing put up those stats as the Eastern Oregon Men's Basketball team went 1-1 at the College of Idaho Golden Rule Shootout.
The Mounties lost Friday to Westminster 71-88 but knocked off Willamette 95-88 on Saturday.
On the season Carollo is averaging 18.9 points and 5.3 rebounds through seven contests. EOU is 6-1 in those games, due in large part to the seniors fast start.
The Hermiston native has accumulated 132 points this year bringing his career total total to 1074. That number is just 68 short of Eastern's all-time leader in points scored, Johnnie Hilliard. Mark currently ranks 2nd on the career scoring list.
While basketball at EOU dates back to the 1920's, Career scoring statistics have only been kept since the 1979-1980 season.
Carollo was the first ever signee by 4th year Head Coach Ryan Looney, "Mark has been an important part of our program for four years. He was the first player we signed here." Looney went on to add, "Mark has done a great job of rebounding and mixing up his game so far this season."
The son of Bob and Ruth Carollo has already been awarded 38 free throws through 7 games. Last year he shot just 56 in 21 games played.
At his current pace Carollo would pass Hilliard on December 18th when The Mounties travel to Cascade College in Portland.
