SALEM, Ore. – Sophomore Emily Goette (Aumsville, Ore.) shot 7-for-9 from the field en route to scoring a team-high 16 points off the bench, as Corban's women's basketball team opened the season with a 72-56 loss to the Eagles of Concordia-Irvine Saturday afternoon inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

Despite having not played collegiate basketball for over one year, Goette looked in mid-season form as she owned the offensive low post throughout the game while also recording seven rebounds in 18 minutes of action.

The Warriors opened the game shooting 1-for-10 (.100) from the field, but ended the opening half 7-for-20 from the floor and trailed by 14 points (41-27) at halftime following the Eagles' 13-for-30 (43.3%) performance from the field.

In the second half, Corban came out and began cutting its visitor from Southern California's lead with junior Kailey Bostwick (Medford, Ore.) and senior Jessica Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) leading the charge. Unfortunately for the Warriors, the low-post presence of Concordia's front line and timely outside shooting began to shine for the Eagles and Concordia left the Capitol City with the 72-56 victory.

Along with Goette, Bostwick and Steigleman added 10 points each as the duo combined to shoot 6-for-19 (31.6%) from the field. Senior Mandy Peterson (Portland, Ore.) and junior Margie Lou Correll (Ephrata, Wash.) led the Warriors on the boards with a game-high eight rebounds each, while Bostwick handed out a game-high five assists.

For Concordia, Kayanna Nichols led all players with 19 points on 4-for-9 (44.4%) shooting from the field while Savanna Anderson and Tyler Howard added 12 and 7 points respectively. Karen Carney grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, while Anderson and Lauren Sahli pulled down six boards each.

As a team, Corban shot 21-for-66 (31.8%) from the field, including 14-for-21 (66.7%) from the free throw line. On the other hand, Concordia was 22-for-61 (36.1%) from the field, including the game's only three-point baskets as the Eagles were 6-for-14 (42.9%) from beyond the arc.

With the season-opening loss, Corban is now 0-1, while Concordia-Irvine grabs its second straight win over a Cascade Collegiate Conference opponent and moves to 2-0 on the season. The Warriors are next in action on Monday, November 5th, when they travel north to Spokane, Washington for an exhibition match-up with NCAA Division I Gonzaga beginning at 7:00 p.m.
