Second-Half Run Dooms Eastern Oregon
OREM, Utah – The Eastern Oregon University Women’s Basketball team got a small taste of big time college basketball Friday night when they faced NCAA Division I Utah Valley State Friday. Eastern lost to the Wolverines 85-59 in an exhibition contest in Orem, Utah.
The Mounties held their own for much of the game. In fact, at one point EOU led by 9 in the first half. Then, down by just 2 with 14:59 remaining UVSC went on a 16-1 run to create some distance between themselves and the Mountaineers.
Head coach Anji Weissenfluh said, “We just ran out of gas with about two minutes to go in the first half. Our turnovers led to easy baskets for them.” Weissenfluh went on to say, “It was a good experience. The only way you get in game shape is by playing games.”
Eastern was led by Breana Olson led the Mounties with 14 points on 5-11 shooting. Laura Olsen had 8, followed by Tiffanie Ulmer and Jenny Fiso who tossed in 7 each.
If tonight was a small taste of big time college basketball, Saturday could prove to be even bigger as EOU travels to Provo, Utah to play BYU.
