Corban Defeats Northwest University
KIRKLAND, WA – Corban College defeated Northwest University, 59-47, tonight in Cascade Conference play.
Corban jumped out to a 7-0 lead and led until the 5:39 mark in the first half when Chelsea Drivstuen’s offensive tip in and free throw tied the score at 18. Drivstuen put NU into the lead 21-18 with her 3-pointer with 5:10 left in the half and her eighth consecutive point gave the Eagles a 23-18 lead with 3:27 remaining. Corban’s Mandy Peterson put the Warriors back into the lead, 24-23, with her jumper and another jumper by Jessica Steigleman with 49 seconds left gave Corban the 26-23 lead going into the locker room.
The second half saw Corban increase their lead to 39-27 with 15:28 remaining in the game and building their biggest lead of the night to 16 points, 48-32 with 11:58 to go. The closest the Eagles would get in the second half would be nine points, 54-45 at the 2:03 mark in the second stanza but they would only score two more points the remainder of the game.
Jessica Steigleman (Sr., Eugene, OR/Churchill HS)led Corban College (3-4, 1-1 CCC) with 23 points and teammate Kailey Bostwick (Jr., Medford, OR/Portland State Univ.) scored 11 points and had 6 assists for the Warriors. Corban outrebounded Northwest U. 43-40 and had only 3 team turnovers for the contest. Corban’s defense held Northwest to 27.9% shooting for the game and 17.4% from the 3-point line.
