CALDWELL, Idaho -- Tyler Hopper met an NAIA "A" mark, while Katie Ball set a school record as The College of Idaho opened up the indoor track season at the Jackson's Invitational in Nampa.
Hopper, fresh off an outstanding cross country season, was nosed out at the tape by Jesse Fassler of Portland State in the 1,000-meters, but his time of 2:31.79 was well under the NAIA automatic qualifying time.
Ball, who was an All-Cascade Conference socer player this fall, ran the fastest 1,000-meter time in C of I history, placing seventh in 3:08.78. Just behind her was Stephanie Sparks (3:08.88), as was Jayne Saunders (3:17.00).
The Yotes will be off until February, when they will race on three consecutive weekends on the indoor oval.
