Lady Owls Upset Bid Falls Short vs. Puget Sound

TACOMA, Wash. – Oregon Tech was held to a season-low 15 second-half points, as the NCAA III 25th-ranked Puget Sound Loggers remained perfect at home, defeating the Oregon Tech Owls, 58-48, in a non-conference women's basketball game on Tuesday evening at Memorial Fieldhouse in Tacoma, Wash.

The Loggers (5-2) took an early lead over the Lady Owls (7-3), pulling ahead by nine points at the 13:53 mark in the first half. OIT fought back, evening the score at 19-19 with 6:37 remaining in the first period and then taking their first lead of the game on a Cora McVey jumper with 5:30 remaining in the half. The two teams continued to exchange shots as the Owls took a 33-27 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Loggers tightened up on defense, holding the Owls scoreless until the 12:45 mark in the second period. The two squads exchanged leads a few times before the Loggers used a three-pointer by senior Laura Hirsh (Corvallis, Ore./Crescent Valley) with 3:48 to pull ahead by two and the Loggers never looked back, winning 58-48.

Oregon Tech was led offensively by Cora McVey (SR. Dexter, OR), finishing with a double-double, 14 points and 11 rebounds. Amanda Johnston (JR. Myrtle Point, OR) came off the bench to add 12 points. Crystal Idrogo (SO. Sacramento, CA) was held to eight points.

Oregon Tech will resume CCC play on Tuesday 12/18 and Wednesday 12/19, as they host Northwest University and The Evergreen State College. Tip-off both nights begins at 5:30 p.m.
