OIT Stays Perfect at Home
Klamath Falls, Oregon (December 12, 2007)---The Oregon Tech men’s basketball team remained perfect at home after dropping Dominican University 97-63 here at Danny Miles Court this evening. The non-league win puts Oregon Tech at 10-2 overall while Dominican University, an NAIA II team of the Cal-Pac Conference, drops to 3-8 on the season.
Tech never trailed in the contest and took an early 9-2 lead before the Penguins scored two baskets to trim the lead to 9-6. On the next Owl possession, an offensive rebound by Christian Cavanaugh (JR. Mill Valley, CA), followed with a dunk would get the Owls rolling to a 51-27 half time score.
Tech would come out in the second half with much of the same, as fast breaks would lead to easy baskets and open shots on the perimeter would fall for one of the 12 3-point field goals Tech would drain on the night. The Hustlin’ Owls would lead by as many as 40 points late in the second half and hand the Penguins a 97-63 defeat.
The Hustlin’ Owls had four players in double digits, led by Christian Cavanaugh’s double-double, 22 points and 12 rebounds. Myles Daley (SO. Medford, OR) would finish with 18 points and Nate Lewis (JR. Culver, OR) dropped in 11. Ryan Fiegi (SR. Medford, OR) had another brilliant performance, as the all-american scored 10 points and dished out nine assists while grabbing seven rebounds.
Dominican had two players finish in double digit scoring led by a 21 point performance by Adam Chavis followed by 10 points and seven rebounds from Phil Havlicek.
Oregon Tech finished the evening shooting 50.7% from the field on 36-71 shooting, going 12-28 from 3-point land. Tech dished out 26 assists with only 11 turnovers and gathered 52 rebounds, 20 coming from the offensive end. The Penguins knocked down only 38.2% of their shots on 26-68 shooting and were out rebounded by 22, as DU finished the game with 30 boards.
Tonight was the last non-league game of the season for Tech, as they will resume CCC play beginning Tuesday 12/18 versus Northwest University and Wednesday 12/19 against The Evergreen State College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. both nights.
