Yotes Hang Tough But Fall to Stanford
STANFORD, Calif. - Landry Fields scored a game-high 23 points as Stanford University returned from finals week with an 81-53 exhibition victory over The College of Idaho, before 7,009 fans at Maples Pavilion.
The Cardinal (8-1) connected on their first three shots on the night, opening an 8-0 lead in the first 90 seconds, but missed their next ten attempts over a four minute stretch. Josh Owen canned a pair of treys and Bryan Champ hit a baseline jumper, as the Coyotes used a 10-0 run to take their first lead of the night.
The Yotes (4-8) would lead as late as 16-14 with ten minutes remaining, but watch as the Pac-10 school used a 13-2 run to close out the first half and lead 39-25 at the break. A 13-0 run, keyed by three Drew Schiller treys ballooned the margin to 63-37 midway through the second half - as The C of I could not get closer than 19 points the rest of the way.
Owen led the Coyotes with 12 points, with Andy Maxwell scoring nine and both Champ and Kurt Nielson scoring eight. Seven-foot post Robin Lopez had 15 points and nine rebounds.
Tuesday night, the Coyotes return to Cascade Conference play, traveling to Warner Pacific for a 7:30 p.m. (PST) tip-off with the Knights.
