Evergreen Opens Season on Winning Note
OLYMPIA, Wash. - The 2007 Evergreen men's soccer team defeated visiting University of Great Falls 5-1 in today's first regular season game.
Great Falls, a member of the Frontier Conference, is the newest program of the NAIA Region I teams.
The Argo's nearly scored on the Geoducks in the first 40 seconds of the game and a header by ESC's Shawn Farrow just missed the goal a minute later. Other than these close calls the game remained scoreless during the first 30 minutes.
In the 33rd minute Evergreen's Cody Lofquist had a shot following James Pratt's corner. Rebounding first off a UGF player, Lofquist neatly tapped the ball between defenders.
The second half saw a barage of shots against the Argo's goal by Evergreen. Lofquist was again the next Geoduck to score. His 3rd career goal for ESC.
Matt Curry scored in the 65th minute and Shawn Farrow was credited with a point following UGF's own goal to tally the score at 4-0 with eleven minutes remaining on the clock.
University of Great Falls earned a significant stat in the 81st minute when Michael David became the contributor of the first point in Argo Soccer history.
Sophomore Ryan Mulnick scored on a penalty kick with one minute remaining to set the final score at 5-1.
Evergreen has a scrimmage Sunday when they host North Idaho College at noon.
