ASHLAND, Ore. – The Southern Oregon volleyball team earned its second home win of the season, sweeping Northwest University, 3-0, on Saturday night at McNeal Pavilion. The Raiders topped the Eagles 30-18, 30-22, and 30-22 for their eighth win of the season.

Southern Oregon (8-4, 3-1) had another solid night of hitting, nailing 49 kills on 115 attempts for a .235 hitting percentage. The Raiders hit a match-high of .303 in game one before falling to .132 in game two, and bouncing back to .273 in game three. Northwest University (1-5, 0-4) was held to .034 on the night, registering 27 kills on 118 attempts. The Eagles had a match high in game three of .070, with nine kills in the game.

The Eagles put up a fight, making the Raiders work for each game victory. At multiple points in games two and three the Eagles held the lead before the Raiders came back for the final wins.

Senior Jaclyn Hamilton-Smith (Eugene, Ore.) led the Raiders with 12 kills (.138) while Richelle Millsap (Bend, Ore.) and Mia Wortel (Estacada, Ore.) each tallied 10 kills. Shanna Claflin (Grants Pass, Ore.) added nine kills to the Raider offense while joining Wortel to lead the team in blocks with five and six, respectively. Emily Stone (Ashland, Ore.) was again reliable in the back row, putting up 17 digs on the night, while Katie Pluchos (Portland, Ore.) added 11 digs. Lindsey Stone (Ashland, Ore.) tallied 10 digs on the night while also putting up 40 set assists and a team-high of four service aces for the win.

The Eagles were led by Lauren Holtz who had 11 kills while setter Tarah Petrick aided with 23 set assists. Madeleine led the team in service aces with two while libero Andrea Cotton helped with 15 digs on the night. Gina Lubanovici added six blocks on the night to aid the Eagle defense.

The Raider win pushes their consecutive home win streak to 10, including eight from the 2006 season as well as their 3-0 win over Evergreen State on Friday night.

The Raiders will host William Jessup on Thursday, September 20 in a regular season, non-conference match. The match will be held at SOU’s McNeal Pavilion at 2 p.m.
