Southern Oregon Picks Up Win vs. Simpson
REDDING, Calif. – The Southern Oregon women’s soccer team improved to 4-3-1 on Wednesday afternoon after defeating Simpson University, 1-0, here.
The Raiders had a slow start to their mid-season, non-conference game, not playing with their normal energy in the first half. Although they struggled, the Raiders fought back in the second half and were rewarded with a goal scored by freshman forward Auika Muragin, her third of the season.
Although the Raiders won, their 2007 match-up with Simpson was much harder than their 3-0 win over SU last season.
“We played a decent game,” said head coach Jon Clement. “Simpson has vastly improved from the 2006 season and it showed in the game today. They were one of the most improved teams I had ever seen in collegiate soccer.”
With the goal, Muragin moves to the top of the Raiders standings with a team high of three goals on the season. Justina MacDowell, Kara Bradach, Kayla Wilhelm, and Stacy Szeto each have two goals on the season.
The Raiders return home to host Albertson College and Eastern Oregon on Friday, September 21 and Saturday, September 22 on SOU’s University Field. Both games are slated for 3 p.m. starts.
