Simon Fraser Captures Tourney Title at Evergreen

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Simon Fraser captured the fifth edition edition of the Arno Zoske Soccer Classic with a total of 17 points. University of British Columbia was the runner-up with 11 points, University of Saskatchewan finished third with nine points and Evergreen State placed fourth with three points.

On Saturday, Evergreen engaged in a heated battle with UBC that lasted into two sudden-death overtimes. With two minutes remaining in the final period, UBC’s Charles Vallieres scored following his team's corner kick with an authoritative boot into the Geoducks' net.

The University of British Columbia was on top of tournament standings after Saturday’s double overtime, 4-3 win over Evergreen. Simon Fraser held the runner-up position posting a 1-0 win over University of Saskatchewan at the end of the first day of action.

In the first game Sunday, University of Saskatchewan defeated University of British Columbia 3-2 in the first 10 minute, sudden-death overtime. David Patterson of the Huskies scored unassisted for the win in the extra minutes.
An emotional second game saw Evergreen lose to NAIA Region I rival Simon Fraser University 4-0. SFU kept the Geoducks on the defensive, taking 22 shots in the game to ESC's four.

The next game for Evergreen (1-2-0) is in Kirkland at Northwest University, the first Cascade Conference game for ESC.
