Northwest Overcomes WPC in 5
KIRKLAND, Wash.– Northwest University defeated Warner Pacific, 3-2 in Cascade Conference volleyball tonight (28-30, 30-22, 30-24, 26-30, 15-11). Down 8-4 in the fifth and deciding game, Northwest came back to outscore Warner Pacific 11 to 3 to win the game and the match.
Laura Peterson (Mt. Vernon, WA/Shoreline CC) led Northwest U. (2-5, 1-5 CCC) with 21 kills and teammate Lauren Holtz (Brier, WA/Inglemoor HS) with 19 kills and a .265 hitting percentage. Setter Tarah Petrick (Monroe, WA/Monroe HS) had a team high and outstanding performance with 44 assists and 15 defensive digs and Andrea Cotton (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor HS) had 10 assists and 33 defensive digs on the night for the Eagles.
Warner Pacific (6-4, 2-3 CCC) was led by Leah Gradwohl (Salem, OR/Salem HS) with 16 kills and Marcy Oakland with 14 kills. Tara Andrews (Rainier, OR/Rainier HS) led the Knights with 38 assists and 15 defensive digs while teammate Samantha Kolakowski (Vancouver, WA/Evergreen HS)had 18 digs. Former Northwest player, Kara VanZanten (Longview, WA/Mark Morris HS) added 11 kills and 8 digs for the Knights.
Northwest U. will host Cascade College Saturday night while Warner Pacific travels to Olympia to take on The Evergreen State College in more Cascade Conference play. Both games are slated for 7 p.m.
