KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. --The Oregon Tech women’s soccer team improved to 6-3-1 on the season and to 2-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play with a 2-1 win over Eastern Oregon (2-4, 1-2 CCC) at Trevor Derrah Field.

Eastern looked strong early on in the match with strong play by its midfielders. At the 21-minute mark in the first half, Eastern scored the first goal of the game when Lori Wilson (Jr. / Battle Ground, WA) placed a perfect corner kick just inside the six and Nicole Achibeque got just enough of the ball to put it past Oregon Tech’s Goalie Jaclyn Unruh (Jr. / Medford, OR).

Oregon Tech had seven shots in the first half but good goalie play by Kristina Kennedy (Sr. / Bellingham, WA) kept Tech scoreless. The Mountaineers managed only one shot on goal the rest of the first half.

The Lady Owls came out of the halftime with more energy, controlling the ball and tempo. In the fourth minute of the second half, Tech scored its first goal of the game. Tech’s goal came off a beautiful cross by Brittany Garton (Sr. / Milton Freewater, OR) to Katie O’Brien (So. / Jacksonville, OR) who volleyed the ball over the extended arms of Molly Sumpter ( So. / Sultan, WA), the Mountaineers goalie. Ten minutes later at the 59:09 mark, Tech’s Katie O’Brien was at it again, this time scoring unassisted when her shot from 21 yards was placed perfectly into the upper right corner of the Mountaineers goal. The goals for O’Brien were her ninth and 10th of the season.

For the game OIT outshot EOU 14 to 10, with shots on goal also favoring the home team 6-3. Oregon Tech galie Jaclyn Unruh was credited with two saves, while the Mountaineers two goalies were credited with four saves. Eastern was called for 12 fouls and Tech nine.

Oregon Tech will play host to Albertson College of Idaho Saturday night at Steen Sports Park beginning at 7 p.m. Albertson enters Saturday’s game off a big win at Southern Oregon 1-0 Friday night. Eastern will swap places with Albertson, playing at Southern Oregon at 3 p.m. Saturday.
