PORTLAND -- The Cascade women's soccer team continued its strong play with a 2-1 victory over the Griffins of Westminster College in non-conference action at Williams & Smith Field today. The win was the fifth of the year for Cascade, matching the total number of wins from a season ago.

Westminster struck first in the opening period as Alice Hewes collected a rebound and placed a shot to upper left corner. Madison Spere was credited with the assist.

The first goal was the result of a nice crossing volley by Sandy Hanania at the 50th minute that found Martinez's foot and was blasted left of the Griffin keeper. Hanania had apart in the second goal also, as McKenzie headed home her shot that clanged off the crossbar in the 70th minute.

"We looked a little fatigued in the first half due to playing three games in four days," said coach Justin Bigelow. "The ladies stepped up after halftime and made it happen, so that is very encouraging. We haven't looked very good in the first half of several games so that's something we need to work on, but the ladies should be proud of the way they are performing."

Cascade moves to 5-3-2 overall with the win. Westminster falls to 7-5-1.
