12th-Ranked Simon Fraser Blanks Northwest
BURNABY, B.C. – Simon Fraser University scored three goals in each half as it soundly defeated Northwest University, 6-0, tonight on Terry Fox Field in a non-conference game. Six different Clan players scored as SFU lived up to its No. 12 ranking in NAIA.
Luca Bellisomo got SFU (8-1-1) one the scoreboard first with his goal 14:29 into the first half on his header off a corner from Justin Carvey. Liam McKinnon followed 18 minutes later with an unassisted goal and Colin Streckman ended SFU’s scoring in the first half with his goal at 36:41 off a cross from Josh Barnett. The Clan wasted no time in the second half, 1:11 in to be exact, as Todd Lucyk scored off Stefano Pannu’s pass after stealing a pass from a Northwest U. defender. Liam Smith scored a goal 71 minutes into the contest half from Josh Bennett’s second assist on the night. With three minutes to go in the game, Leigh Sembaluk scored the final goal of the night.
Kyle Wall (Federal Way, WA/Seattle Christian HS), Northwest U’s (3-5, 2-3 CCC) conference leader in saves, had seven more saves on the night for the Eagles as SFU outshot NU 22-4.
Northwest U. will remain on the road for the next three gamesm returning to Cascade Conference play this weekend as it travels to Eugene, Ore., to play the CCC’s newest member, Northwest Christian College, on Friday. The Eagles will then travel up the road to Salem the next day as they match up with Corban College on Saturday. Their third and final road game will be Oct. 2 as they take on in-state rival The Evergreen State College in Olympia.
