Cavs Cruise to 3-0 Win Over NCC
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. –Behind a 31-0 shot advantage, the Concordia University women’s soccer team kept its undefeated Cascade Collegiate Conference season intact with a 3-0 win over Northwest Christian College at Mike Kelly Field.
With the win, Concordia moved to 9-2-0 on the season and 5-0-0 in conference play. Northwest Christian, in its second year of women’s soccer, dropped to 0-9-1 for the year.
Stephanie Solarek’s (Port Orchard, Wash.) first goal of the season provided the eventual game-winner for the Cavs. With a feed by Caitlin Verhofstadt (Silverdale, Wash.), Solarek turned for a five-yard strike in the 6th minute to give Concordia the early 1-0 lead.
Verhofstadt would receive her second assist of the day, and ninth of the season, with a pass to Carli Godard (Roseburg, Ore.) in the 60th minute. Twenty-five yards from the goal line, Godard’s powerful strike sailed over Beacon goalie Bethany McAlister to boost the CU advantage to 2-0.
Jessica Ramback (Mill Creek, Wash.) connected on the Cavalier’s final score by placing a shot past the defense in the 87th minute after receiving the ball from Kaitlyn Tebbs (Bend, Ore.) via Danielle MacBride (McMinnville, Ore.). The score represented the second assist on the season for both passers, while Ramback boosted her season haul to a conference-leading 11th goal of the season.
McAlister recorded six saves on the night in support of the NCC defensive effort. Leah Flores (Vancouver, Wash.) recorded her fifth shutout in goal for the Cavaliers.
