Corban Defeats Warner Pacific, 3-1
PORTLAND, Ore. – Junior Chelsea Reeher (Powell Butte, Ore.) recorded a match-high 18 kills, as Corban's women's volleyball team defeated the Knights of Warner Pacific, 3-1 (31-29, 30-23, 24-30, 30-24), on Saturday night inside C.C. Perry Gym to push its winning streak to two matches and remaining in the CCC playoff picture.
Thanks to this weekend's sweep in the Rose City, Corban continues to remain in the Cascade Collegiate Conference playoff picture and moves into a tie for fourth with Eastern Oregon and Oregon Tech, a mere three games out of first place.
Along with Reeher, junior Rashelle Davenport (Kalama, Wash.), freshman Kristen Eiler (Salem, Ore.), and senior Ashley Lange (Salem, Ore.) added 17, 12, and 10 kills respectively. Besides her match high in kills, Reeher also recorded a match and career-high seven blocks (2 solo, 5 assist) to go along with a team-high hitting percentage of .421.
Sophomore setter Amy Thompson (Oregon City, Ore.) handed out a match-high 52 assists for Corban, while junior Margo Wyatt (Dufur, Ore.) registered a match-high 20 digs from the back row to go along with senior Caylin Bankston's (La Grande, Ore.) 11, Davenport's 10, and Thompson's 10. On the defensive side of the net, the Warriors recorded a season-high 10.0 blocks with Eiler helping Reeher with five blocks (1 solo, 4 assist) of her own.
Warner Pacific was led by Leah Gradwohl's match and team-high 18 kills, while Kara Van Zanten and a pair of Knights (Marcy Oakland and Ann Whitemarsh) added 16 and 10 kills respectively. Tara Andrews equaled Thompson's assist output with a match and team-high 52 assists for Warner Pacific, while Samantha Kolakowski anchored the Knights' back row with a team-high 11 digs.
With the win, Corban evens its overall record at 7-7 and moves to 5-3 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Warner Pacific drops to 7-6 overall, 3-5 in CCC action. The Warriors are back in action on Friday, October 5th, when they host the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
