Cascade's One Goal Enough for 1-0 Win vs. NCC
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Thunderbird women's soccer team managed just one goal, but it was enough as Cascade defeated Northwest Christian 1-0 in CCC action today at Williams & Smith Field.
Amanda Hassler knocked home her first goal of the season from a Sandy Hanania pass in the 70th minute to provide the game winner. Hassler's goal marks the eighth different T-Bird to find the back of the net.
Cascade controlled the flow of the game throughout, registering 23 shots to the visiting Beacon' five. The NCC eleven was resilient, however, as the T-Birds were unable to finish in their offensive end. "We haven't figured out how to capitalize in the final third of the field," said coach Justin Bigelow. "We had a few good looks, but their keeper did a nice job. We'll take the win and hope to keep our playoff push going."
T-Bird goalkeeper Valerie Perez notched her second shutout of the year, making three saves. NCC netminder Bethany McAlister turned away 15 shots in the loss.
Cascade sits in third place in CCC play at 3-1-1 and 6-3-2 overall. Northwest Christian falls to 0-10-1 and 0-6.
