Evergreen Downs OIT, 1-0
OLYMPIA, Wash. -- For the second game in a row, Evergreen State's Monica Ragan (Fr, Boise, ID) scored the game-winning goal. On Saturday, it happened in the 75th minute in a 1-0 victory over Oregon Tech.
It was the third goal in two games for Ragan, who on Friday moved into the Evergreen top-10 all-time lists in goals scored in a game (2, vs. SOU) and points in a game (4, vs vs SOU). Additionally she shares the title of most goals in a game by a freshman with teammate Marissa Major (vs. WPC '05).
In contrast with Friday's game with SOU, today's game with OIT was very physical with a number of players on both sides completing the game with battle wounds.
Evergreen outshot OIT 13-7 but both teams were well-matched in shots on goal, Evergreen totaling four to OIT's three. Credit the strong defensive play by both OIT and ESC for keeping most serious attempts to score at bay.
Ragan's goal was the end result of an excellent cross pass by Madeleine Tuson-Turner to the center of the field. A quick dribble to the right of her defender and Ragan's shot found net from 20 yards out. Tuson-Turner was credited with her first assist of the season.
Evergreen is on the road October 4th in Salem, Ore., for a 4 p.m. match with Corban College. The Geoducks' record improves to 4-5-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the Cascade Conference. Saturday's win moves them up to the fourth place in the CCC.
