Yotes Extend Home Streak, Beat SOU
CALDWELL, Idaho - Libero Catherine Everist set an Albertson College of Idaho three-game record with 35 digs, as the No. 11 ranked Coyotes opened their home season with a 30-25, 30-20, 30-22 victory over Southern Oregon in the J.A. Albertson Activities Center. The victory for ACI (3-6, 1-0 CCC) extended their home win streak to 26 in a row, dating back to the 2005 season. It was the sixth-straight win by the Coyotes over their rivals.
The Yotes use a three-point push at 23-23 to take control of Game 1. Aces by Ashley Galeai and Tiffany Sower helped close out Southern (5-4, 0-1). ACI never trailed in Game 2, as a pair of Kathryn Ely and Katie Hogue kills, part of a 7-0 run, gave the Yotes a 22-14 edge and were never threatened. Game 3 saw SOU tie the score at 7-7, but three attack errors and a Coyote ace gave ACI the lead for good.
Everist was a defensive machine for the Yotes, breaking her own school record of 34 digs in a three-game match, set last season vs Concordia.
Ely led the Coyote attack with 18 kills, with Hogue blasting ten spikes and eight total blocks. Galeai had a match-high 41 assists in the win, with freshman Madie Machurek recording 14 digs and three aces.
The Raiders were led by freshman Tai Jacques with ten kills, Lindsey Stone with 30 assists, and Emily Stone with 16 digs.
ACI returns to action tomorrow night, hosting Oregon Tech at 7 p.m., while SOU heads for a tilt at Eastern Oregon.
