Cavaliers Hold on to Defeat Cascade
PORTLAND, Ore.—Up by double digits for most of the game, Concordia University withstood a late charge to capture a 71-67 conference road win at Cascade College on Saturday.
With the win, Concordia improved to 7-10 overall and 3-5 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference while Cascade College dropped to 5-11 and 0-8 in the CCC.
After three ties and four lead changes in the first 10 minutes, Concordia mounted a 13-0 run for a 28-17 lead with six minutes remaining in the first before taking a 12-point lead into intermission.
Playing even for much of the second period, Cascade finally made a move against Concordia in the closing minutes with a 10-2 run to cut the margin to four points before running out of time on the game clock.
Benefited from a 6-of-6 performance at the free throw line, Ryan Johnson led the Cavs with 18 points while teammate Cody Aker grabbed a game0high 12 rebounds. Ben Pawlek paced the Thunderbird attack with 20 points.
Concordia returns to action on Jan. 18 when it hosts The College of Idaho at 7:30 p.m. inside the Cavalier Gymnasium. Cascade will travel to Oregon Tech on Friday to face the Owls at 7:30 p.m.
