SALEM, Ore. – With a pair of free throws and a field goal in the first half of Saturday’s game at Warner Pacific, senior Jessica Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) eclipsed the 1,500-point plateau and surpassed former Warrior Christy Nordstrom (1993-97) to become the leading scorer in Warrior women’s basketball program history.

Steigleman, who finished the game with a team-high 19 points and eight rebounds, now sits at 1,517 career points heading into Friday’s match up against nationally-ranked Eastern Oregon. For her career, Steigleman has averaged 13.8 points in 110 games to claim the all-time scoring mark compared to Nordstrom who scored 1,502 points in 121 games over her four-year career with the Warriors.

“Jessica’s scoring is just a capsule of her all-around ability and definitely highlights her career,” said ninth-year head coach Terry Williams. “She is such an unselfish player and I can’t think of anyone more deserving. Christy Nordstrom was also a great player, and for Jessica to pass her is truly a great accomplishment.”

A 5-foot-10 guard/forward combo player, Steigleman leads the team in scoring this season through 18 games with a total of 303 points and an average of 16.8 points per game, which also ranks third in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. She also led the Warriors in scoring during the 2006-07 season at 14.3 points per game, as well as total points (374) and scoring average (12.9 ppg) in 2004-05. Former Warrior Jessi Norton (2003-07) outscored Steigleman by a mere point during the 2005-06 season (383-382) and led in scoring average by a mere tenth of a point (12.0-11.9), as Steigleman’s sophomore season was the only one that she has not ended as the team leader in one or both categories.

In addition to leading the program in scoring, Steigleman is one steal away from becoming the third Warrior to record more than 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 200 steals, and 50 blocked shots over her career. Currently, Steigleman has 1,517 points, 592 rebounds, 199 steals, and 67 blocks.

In other career statistical categories, Steigleman is also the all-time leader in field goals made (619) and field goals attempted (1,460), while ranking third in points per game (13.8), third in blocks (67), eighth in rebounds (592), ninth in rebounds per game (5.4), ninth in steals (199), tenth in free throw made (217), and eleventh in free throw attempted (304).

Steigleman graduated from Churchill High School in 2004 where she earned league MVP and all-state recognition in basketball. She is majoring in education and hopes to teach following graduation.

The Warriors will continue Cascade Collegiate Conference play Friday, January 18th, when the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon visit the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
