Eastern Oregon Defeats Rival College of Idaho
LA GRANDE, Ore. - For the third time in five nights the Eastern Oregon University Men's Basketball team found themselves down early and in need of some late game heroics. Tonight those heroics came in the form of Neil Fryer and Nick Finley as the Mounties (14-2, 7-1 CCC) knocked off The College of Idaho 63-62.
Fryer, who scored just 3 points in the first half came out and provided a spark scoring 11 points, highlighted by a rim rocking break a way dunk. The junior wing also pulled down 6 boards and blocked 3 shots.
Finley came off the bench to do his damage in a less obvious way. The senior from Creswell was a meager 3-8 from the field, scoring just 8 points and grabbing 3 rebounds but his defense and ability to set up his teamates with easy shots proved to be crucial. Finley finished with 6 assists and a game high 6 steals in 26 minutes of action.
In a first half that left EOU down 33-25 the Mounties shot 36% from the field while the Yotes knocked down 50% of their shots and 57% (8-14) from the 3 point line.
In the second half the Mounties turn the tables on their rivals from Caldwell. This time the Yotes were held to 37% while EOU warmed up to 48%.
With the win Eastern returns to the top of the Cascade Conference standings, tied with Oregon Tech.
This weekend the Mountaineers will try and keep the ball rolling as they travel to Corban and Concordia
