Lady Owls Fly Past Thunderbirds

KLAMATH FALLS, Oregon ---The Oregon Tech women’s basketball team improved to 14-5 overall and 6-3 in CCC play, defeating Cascade College 78-57 tonight at Danny Miles Court. The loss dropped the Thunderbirds to 10-9 and 3-6 in the CCC.

The Lady Owls used a 19-6 run in the first half to jump out to a 39-22 lead, only to see Cascade chip away and cut the lead to only nine points, at 43-34 heading to the locker room at halftime. Cascade would score the first basket of the second half and cut the lead to 43-36, but it was all Oregon Tech from then on. A 14-2 run would push the lead to 19 points and on an Amanda Johnston (Jr. Myrtle Point, OR) 3-pointer, gave the Owls their biggest lead of the game of 25 points at 73-58 with 7:01 remaining in the game. Tech would eventually push the lead to 26 points with under four minutes to go and cruise to the final of 78-57.

Crystal Idrogo (So, Sacramento, CA) would lead all scorers with 19 points, on 8-17 shooting, while Cora McVey (Sr. Dexter, OR) hit for 17 points and added eight rebounds to her total. Amanda Johnston knocked down 13 points and had a game high nine rebounds followed by 11 points from Jenna Ball (Sr. Scappoose, OR). Meagan Miyasaka (Jr. Honolulu, HI) added a game high nine assists and grabbed five rebounds while Megan Ross (Fr. Medford, OR) added a huge spark off the bench tallying eight points and six rebounds.

Cascade had three players in double figures led by a 15 point effort from Phieban Mulatu, followed by 12 points from Robin Swain and 10 from Christina Brito. Te Awhina Aranui tied a game high nine rebounds and put in six points.

Oregon Tech will host Warner Pacific, in the last game of a three-game homestand tomorrow night, before hitting the road playing at Evergreen on 1/25 and Northwest on 1/26 to begin the second round of CCC play.
