SOU Remains Perfect at Home with Win over WPC

ASHLAND, Ore. -- Southern Oregon University Women's basketball team continued its mastery at McNeal Pavilion, winning their 10th consecutive home game beating Warner Pacific, 91-70 Friday night.

SOU jumped out to a quick 50-35 halftime lead but not before WPC gave the Raiders all they could handle. With five minutes left in the first half, SOU led only 30-28. The final five minutes of the half was all SOU as the Raiders outscored the Knights 20-5 to end the half up by 15.

The Raiders were led in scoring by Jacki Speer with 17 points, Chelsey Muri added 16 and Whitney Scott added 14. In fact SOU had all 12 players score in the contest as Coach Lynn Kennedy cleared his bench through most of the second half.

SOU shot 34-72 from the field or 47%, while WPC made 26-56 or 46% for the game. SOU was 6-17 from three point range compared to 2-8 for WPC. SOU hit 17-33 free throws, while WPC 16-26.

The second half was no different for WPC. SOU came out strong again outscoring the Knights 23-4 in the first eight minutes of the second and built the lead to 73-39 with 12 minutes left.

WPC was led in scoring by Danica Wilson with 16 points, Stephanie Rider added 10 as the only Knights in double figures.

With the win, SOU moves its overall record to 16-3 and 7-2 in Cascade Conference play. WPC falls to 5-13 overall and 3-6 in league play. SOU remains unbeaten at home 10-0 for the season and plays Cascade College Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. at McNeal Pavilion before hitting the road next week.

Saturday's SOU vs Cascade game will be broadcast live on KEZX AM 730 at 5:15 and the Internet at www.sousports.com Warner Pacific plays at Oregon Tech tomorrow night, Cascade was beaten by OIT Friday night 78-57.
