Coyotes Knock Off Cascade
CALDWELL, Idaho - Bryan Champ scored a career-high 21 points, helping The College of Idaho win their fourth-straight home game, defeating Cascade College, 81-69, before a capacity crowd on Scout Night at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center. However, the biggest cheer was not for the Coyotes, but for C of I student Ben Nass - as he became the first student in the seven-year history of the Paul's Market Shoot-For-Tuition to make a lay-up, free throw, three-pointer, and half court shot in 25 seconds. Paul's Market will pay for his 2008 spring tuition, at a cost of $8,500.
After the Thunderbirds (5-15, 0-11 CCC) used a 20-3 run spanning both halves to erase a Coyote 14-point lead and take a 42-39 edge with 15-minutes remaining, Champ fueled a 16-2 run with back-to-back three-pointers, as The C of I won their 18th-straight game over Cascade. The junior had six rebounds and added six steals - upping his Cascade Conference leading total to 67 swipes on the season.
Josh Owen had 15 points and six assists, J.R. Maggard had 15 points and seven rebounds, and Kurt Nielson added 13 points and seven rebounds in the victory for the Yotes (10-11, 7-4), who moved into a four-way tie for third-place in the loop standings.
Cascade got 23 points and six rebounds from Eric Taylor and 15 points from Ben Pawlak in the loss, the tenth-straight by the T-Birds.
The Coyotes return to action tomorrow night, hosting No. 21 ranked Warner Pacific at 7:30 p.m
