OIT Hands Northwest 12th Straight Loss

KIRKLAND, WA – Oregon Tech held on for a 71-64 Cascade Conference victory over Northwest University tonight in Kirkland. After Tech took a 37-30 halftime lead, the second half was played to a 34-34 tie.

Tech’s Amanda Johnson put the Owls up early, 11-7 with her 3 pointer at the 16:21 mark but a 6-0 run by Northwest and Rachel Travis’ trey would get the lead for NU, 13-11, with 13:58 left in the half. OIT would tie the game at 13 and take the lead with a 13-0 spurt to put the Owls ahead 26-13 with 8:58 left in the half. OIT would maintain their lead the rest of the half and take a 37-30 lead into the locker room at the break.

The Owls would start the second stanza with a 5-0 run and put themselves up, 42-30, with 17:59 to go in the game. Northwest would cut the lead to five, 51-46 at the 12:05 mark with Jennah Mitchell’s 3 point shot but the Eagles could get no closer than four, 66-62 with 1:59 left in the game. A jumper by Amanda Johnston and a free throw by Cora McVey would increase OIT’s lead to seven, 69-62 with 39 seconds to go. Two free throws by Meagan Miyasaka would close out the scoring for Oregon Tech as they cruised to the victory.

Junior Brittany Bowsher (Issaquah, WA) led Northwest U. (2-18, 1-11 CCC) with 19 points. Guard Rachel Travis (Jr., North Bend, WA) scored 15 points and teammate Erika Hornyak (Fr., Everett, WA) dropped in another 14 for the Eagles.

Oregon Tech (16-6, 8-4 CCC) was led by Jenna Ball’s 18 points. Tech’s point guard, junior Meagan Miyasaka (Jr., Honolulu, HI) missed a triple double by one rebound as she finished with 11 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds. Junior Amanda Johnston (Myrtle Point, OR) added another 16 points. Senior Jenni Miller (Boise, ID) added another 12 points for the Owls from Klamath Falls, Oregon.
