O'Gallagher, Haylett Capture Small College Awards
BEAVERTON -- Former Oregon Tech three-sport standout Kelsi Haylett and current Warner Pacific men’s basketball player Scott O’Gallagher captured the Ad Rutschman Small College Athlete of the Year Awards Sunday at the 56th annual Oregon Sports Awards.
The event was held at the Tiger Woods Center on the Nike campus.
Haylett, the only three-sport athlete in Oregon Tech history, participated in four years of basketball and softball and three in track and field. In basketball, Haylett was a three-year starter for the Lady Owls, setting season records for free throw percentage (.836) and assists (137). Haylett was a CCC honorable mention selection and an NAIA Academic All-American.
As a four-year starting outfielder for the Lady Owl softball squad, Haylett was named first team All-Cascade Conference and to the NAIA Region I first team on three occasions. Haylett was also selected the 2007 Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Year and an NAIA All-American after hitting .430 and totaling 27 stolen bases.
In track and field, Haylett set the Oregon Tech 100 meter record of 12.22 and the 200 meter record of 25.9, both records coming in 2006, where she also helped the Lady Owl track squad earn its fourth straight Cascade Conference team crown. Haylett was again named an NAIA Academic All-American in track and field. She qualified for the NAIA national championships all three seasons.
O'Gallagher, the CCC’s Player of the Year and a first team All-American last year, led the Knights to a 28-6 overall record and a Cascade Conference co-championship. He averaged 24.9 points (second in the nation), 4.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.In his time at Warner Pacific O'Gallagher has amassed 1,755 career points and is currently fourth all time in scoring. This season he leads in scoring with an average of just over 22 points per game.
The awards were voted on by a statewide panel of media members.
