Oregon Tech Contains Cavaliers for Road Win
PORTLAND, Ore—After opening with the game’s first 10 points and holding Concordia scoreless until the seventh minute of play, Oregon Tech sailed to a 68-47 Cascade Collegiate Conference win inside the Cavalier Gymnasium on Saturday.
With the result, Oregon Tech improved to 12-4 on the season and 4-2 in CCC play while Concordia dropped to 7-8 and 3-2 in league contests.
Amanda Johnston (Myrtle Point, Ore.) got the Owls off to its quick start with six early points to stake the early 10-0 lead. Denise Benedict (Ridgefield, Wash,/Prairie H.S.) would finally get the Cavs on the board with a layup at the 12:57 mark.
Moments later, OIT’s Crystal Idrogo (Sacramento, Calif./Folsom H.S.) would fire for the next successful shot, a three-point strike to push the Owl lead up to 13.
A Danielle Clauson (Edmonds, Wash./King’s H.S.) three-point play via a layup and a foul shot with 8:14 remaining in the first brought the Cavaliers to within four but the Owls finished the half with a seven-point lead before increasing the advantage with a 23-8 run in the second to put the game out of reach.
“We put ourselves in a hole,” Concordia head coach Aaron Christian said. “We tried to dig back but tonight just wasn’t our night.”
Idrogo, one of four Owls in double figures, led the floor with 14 points. Clauson led the Cavs with 10 points while teammate Kelsey Schaefer (Vancouver, Wash./Evergreen H.S.) collected a game-high eight rebounds.
The Owls hit their first 15 free throw attempts before a miss in the team’s final attempt with 2:46 remaining.
