Coulson Leads Northwest Over Cascade
KIRKLAND, WA – Eddie Coulson scored 23 points to lead Northwest University over Cascade College 82-73, in Cascade Conference play tonight.
Cascade jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the first half, but Coulson’s 3-pointer with 16:38 would give Northwest U. the lead, 10-8 at the 16:38 mark. The T-Birds would come back to tie the game at 19 a piece with 11:38 remaining, but NU would go on an 8-4 run to re-take the lead, 26-22 with 5:49 left in the half. Another Coulson 3-pointer with 1:25 left would put Northwest up 40-30 and the teams would trade baskets to give NU a 42-35 lead going into the locker room.
The Thunderbirds would come out fast in the second half, out scoring Northwest 6-0 to take an early 43-42 lead with 17:43 to go, but Pat Mattson’s jumper at the 15:43 mark would tie the game at 46. After three more ties, Greg Peters’ free throw would give NU the lead once again at 59-54 with 8:05 left in the game. Two Free throws by the Eagles’ Derek Miller would build NU’s lead to 14 (69-55) at the 4:39 mark and Northwest would hold onto the lead the remainder of the contest.
Eddie Coulson (Jr., N. Las Vegas, NV) led Northwest U. (9-6, 5-1 CCC) for the second night in a row. Junior Derek Miller (Cheney, WA) added 18 points and senior Pat Mattson (Everett, WA) dropped in 13 points for the Eagles. Northwest shot 47% from 2-point range and 43% from the 3-point arc. The Eagles would out rebound the T-Birds by a slim, 39-39 margin.
Eric Taylor, Jr. led Cascade College (0-5, 5-8 CCC) with 22 points, Ben Pawlak added 16 points, and Erving Adams scored 15 for the Thunderbirds. Ryan Barker contributed a double-double on the night with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Northwest U. will host The Evergreen State College in an important Cascade Conference match-up on Tuesday night while Cascade returns home to Portland to host Corban College on January 11.
