OIT Makes it 20 Straight Wins over Southern Oregon

ASHLAND, Ore. -- Mike Nieraeth (So. Bonanza, OR) and Ryan Beesley (Jr. Rotorua, NZ) both dropped in career highs to propel Oregon Tech to 20 straight wins over rival Southern Oregon, with an 89-76 win in Ashland tonight.

The win ups Oregon Tech to 15-2 overall and 6-1 in Cascade Conference play, remaining in second place in the CCC, one game in the loss column behind Eastern Oregon. Southern Oregon drops to 2-5 in CCC action and 6-11 overall.

Mike Nieraeth dropped in a career high 17 points on 5-9 shooting, hitting his first eight points in the first three minutes of the game, to help Tech get rolling. Ryan Beesly got hot, hitting three 3-point field goals in a row to help Tech extend a first half lead to 12 points, on his way to a career high 16 points for the game.

Oregon Tech went into the half up 37-22 only to see Southern Oregon cut the lead to six points with 10 minutes remaining in the game. The Raiders would get no closer, as the Hustlin’ Owls extended the lead to nine points at 78-69, and eventually go up 18 points at 89-71. SOU would score the final five points of the contest, asTech would get their second win of the season against the Raiders 89-76.

This week’s Cascade Conference Player of the Week, Ryan Fiegi (Sr. Medford, OR), would score a game high 25 points while Christian Cavanaugh (Jr. Mill Valley, CA) finished with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Josh Wetzler (Jr. Perth, AUS) grabbed a game high 12 boards and added six points to his total.

Oregon Tech will play their next three games at home, as they entertain Northwest Christian College on Friday 1/11 with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on KLAD 92.5 FM in the Klamath Basin or can be heard worldwide at www.oitsports.com
