SOU Rolls Over Oregon Tech
Playing in their first home game since Dec. 1, the Lady Yotes (8-5, 5-1 CCC) recovered from a difficult start, missing their first 12 shots from the floor, using a 12-2 run to take a 30-22 lead to the locker room. The C of I used a 13-4 run to open the second half to take control, building a lead as big as 29 points.
Kayla Brewer had 12 points - all from outside the arc, with Whitney Clark scoring 11 points - all in the second half. Christon Vander Esch had a team-high ten rebounds in the win.
The Eagles (2-14, 1-7), who have lost ten games in a row, got 16 points and nine rebounds from Rachel Travis and 14 points from Brittany Bowsher. However, NU turned the ball over 28 times in the game and watched the Lady Yotes record a 43-35 edge on the glass.
The C of I return to action tomorrow night, hosting Evergreen State at 7:30 p.m.
Coming into the game, SOU lead the Cascade Conference in scoring, while OIT lead the league in defense. SOU got the better of that match up with big scoring from Chelsey Muri 23 points, Whitney Scott's 13 and Rhiannon Dickison contributed 15 points, which all came from five three point field goals.
Coach Lynn Kennedy who saw his team's nine game winning streak come to an end last Friday at Concordia on poor shooting from the field. He liked what he saw tonight, saying "we played very well from start to finish."
The Raiders jumped out to a quick 48-33 halftime lead thanks to 56% first half shooting from the field. Despite shooting only 34% in the first half OIT kept themselves in the game with scoring from Meagan Miyasaka who had 18 points, Crystal Idrogo had 12, but no other Owl scored in double figures.
SOU has won 11 of its last 12 games and moved to 14-3 overall and 5-2 in Cascade Conference play. OIT fell to 12-5 overall and 4-3 in league play. The two teams meet again in Klamath Falls on February 12.
The Raiders are home again this Saturday against Northwest Christian at 5:30 p.m.
