Tech's Ryan Fiegi Named National Player of Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Oregon Tech’s Ryan Fiegi has been named NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Player of the Week for the week ending January 6, 2008. Fiegi, a 6’7” senior from Medford, Oregon, averaged 27.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5 assists in Oregon Tech’s two games over the weekend. The #10 Hustlin Owls (15-2, 6-1 CCC) won at Corban College (6-9, 1-4 CCC) Friday night 74-66 with Fiegi scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Fiegi followed that with a career high 41 points including four 3-pointers in a row in the second half in Tech’s 81-79 win at Concordia University (5-9, 1-4 CCC) on Saturday night.
The national honor is the first for the Cascade Conference in men’s basketball since Ryan’s older brother, Eric Fiegi, won the honor playing for Corban College back on February 12, 2006 and the first for Oregon Tech since January 4, 2005 when Andre’ Lawrence was given the honor.
Fiegi soared up to number three on Oregon Tech’s All-Time Career scoring list with 1503 points after the 55 point weekend. Fiegi passed Matt Foster (1457), Harvey Sebree (1481), and Bob Townsend (1499). He is now third, trailing Herb McEachin 2nd All-Time with 1678 points and Levell Hesia number 1 All-Time with 2109 points. What makes this feat even more impressive is that Fiegi has only played for Tech for two and a half years.
Oregon Tech (#10) will host Northwest Christian College (5-11, 2-4 CCC) Friday night January 11, 2008 at Danny Miles Court at 7:30 pm. The game can be heard live on 92.5 KLAD-FM and on the World Wide Web at www.oitsports.com.
